13 cool facts about a kiss

I personally wrote a essay about this topic once, it was an anthropology class or something connected with ethnicity. It came back to me recently and I thought about the post – so here are 13 cool, funny and sometimes shocking facts about a kiss. Maybe you know some of them – but for sure not all. Dig in!

1. In some cultures  – during the ritual of kissing –  the mouth is not used at all. Maori people and people of Inuit – rub their noses , Indians Capaya from Ekwador – smell the hand of their friends as a greeting, some tribes of New Guinea  – put a hand under the armpit of another person and  after – they are rubbing this hand over their own body to conserve the smell!!!!

2.  There is a type of kissing called osculum infame, which means „kissing in the ass” literally. Long time ago it was considered as a tribute to devil. It was one of the accusations in the case against Knights Templar. However in old Greek beliefs Gods were supposed to kiss eachother in the ass – and it wasn’t the bravest sexual act possible for them.

3. During the kiss heart beating increases from 75 to 150 beats for a minute, and during average kiss we burn 12 calories.

4. That’ obvious – most of us kiss with closed eyes. But what you don’t know probably is that Greeks called this phenomenon with one word – myei  which means „outside blindness”. We do that to unite in one reality and find another person „inside world”.

5. Most of us kisses with turning the head RIGHT. It’s considered a reminiscence of our prenatal life  – in the last trimester of pregnancy fetus has a tendency to turn the head right.

6.  In a culture of one Indonasian city Banjar Kaja Sesetan there is a celebration of kissing called Omed-omedan. This day everybody kisses openly with everybody – it’s believed that this ritual is protecting the citizens from danger. Male participants are pulling and kissing girls while other villagers are pouring buckets of water towards them. What it’s interesting is that this tradition is one of a great way to find a boyfriend or girlfriend over there 😀

7. „Kamasutra” lists over 30 types of kisses.

8. French kissing similar to human (in a formal and funcional way) we can observe only in a chimpanzees Bonobo (pan paniscus) – research by Frans de Waal.

9. 10 % of the world doesn’t kiss at all – there are  places in the world that people don’t kiss for many reasons, one of them is that some cultures find it dirty.

10. During the kiss we exchange:

  • 40 000 microorganisms
  • 250 different types of bacteria
  • 0,7 grams of proteins
  • 0,45 grams of fat
  • 0,19 grams of other organic compounds

11. Many scientists believe that kissing evolved from kiss feeding, a process used by mothers to feed their infants by passing chewed food to their babies.

12. The longest kiss? Couple from Bangkok held a kiss for 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds on14th of February 2013 during the event called  “kissathon”.

13. And finally – lips are 100 times more sensitive than the tips of the fingers. Not even genitals have as much sensitivity as lips. Kind of hard to believe – I know, but I guess it’s no way to really find out if it’s true.

Be like Paul Newman

With his talent and a handsome face, he could have world on his knees. He didn’t want that. He preferred stable family life, away from the press and Hollywood. He is also an example of a great love story.

Firstly he was married to Jackie Witte from 1949 to 1958. They get married quite young and time&distance did their work, which resulted in divorce. Than he met actress Joanne Woodward and he married her early in 1958. They remained married for fifty years until his death in 2008.

Newman was well known for his devotion to his wife and family. I found this two quotes that are really mind-blowing, because they can show a bit, how great their love was.

Somebody asked Newman once about monogamy and being faithfull. This is how he respond:

“Why go out for a hamburger when you have steak at home?” – Paul Newman

And this is how his wife, Joanne, talked about relationship:

Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that’s a real treat.” — Joanne Woodward

He is not only example for me, which is proved by this quote from “Friends”:

Chandler: “It’s not just their marriage! I mean, look at yours. Look at everybody’s! The only person that can make marriage work is Paul Newman! And I’ve met me; I am not Paul Newman. I don’t race cars! I don’t make popcorn! None of my proceeds go to charity.”

Chandler praises Paul Newman on Friends

What was my point anyway in writing about Paul Newman today? My point is, that I miss that in today’s life. Where couples are fragile as glass, where nobody fight for nobody anymore, where divorce is like serving a breakfast – and everything is being justify by the saying “it’s XXI century”. Facebook has his “open relationship” and “it’s complicated” statuses, which is just a big bullshit, really. Everything is quick, shallow and pointless.

Because I don’t want to be like that. I want to be like Paul Newman, and you can all call me “naive” and “idealistic” – at least I will not be the one who is giving up before I even tried. And trust me – I’m practising my “be like Paul Newman” rule every day 🙂

Magic of snow ;)

I didnt saw snow for a while now and in my mind i really didnt miss it at all. But now, i came back for some time to a land, when snow is usual and….I think i missed it a bit. I didnt expect that, but I really missed it. I realized that one moment yesterday, when the big snowflakes were falling down very slowly in the evening, you know, and it had this magic effect, like the time didnt exist for this one or two moments. I remebered also one thing – Gilmore Girls! I loved this show once and I rememebr the episode, when Lorelai showed her deep apprieciation for a snow 🙂 So for today, here r some quotes from this episode 🙂 Let it snow and enjoy!

Lorelai: Can’t you smell it [snow]?
Rory: You know, its like dogs and high pitched noises. I think its something only you can smell.

Lorelai: I love snow.
Rory: Really, I had no idea.
Lorelai: Everything’s magical when its snows, everything looks pretty. The clothes are great. Coats, scarves, gloves, hats.
Rory: Thermal underwear, wool socks, ear flaps.
Lorelai: Do you know the best things in my life have happened when it snowed?
Rory: Why yes I do.
Lorelai: My best birthday.
Rory: Your first kiss.
Lorelai: Your first steps, they all happened when it snowed. […] I feel good. Tingly.
Rory: That’s called frostbite.
Lorelai: You are mocking your mother, the woman who birthed you.
Rory: I’m sorry.
Lorelai: During a snowstorm, might I add.

Lorelai: Hey, how is it out there?
Michel: It is cold and gray like a fat dead pigeon.
Lorelai: Oh, we’ll need to pull out the sleds, people might want to sled. Ooh, and the parkas. We’ll need the parkas.
Michel: For what?
Lorelai: In case anyone wants to hike.
Michel: You do know that not everyone finds the idea of being pelted with frozen water appealing.
Lorelai: I know, and how sad for them.
Michel: The thrilling sensation of getting lost in a blizzard, of freezing to death in the woods, and having to eat your friend’s buttocks to stay alive, that is lost on many people.
Lorelai: I am telling you, five minutes in a snowball fight we could knock that stick right out of your butt.

Lorelai: Ladies and Gentlemen, we have flakes. Flakes have been sighted. Flakage, if you will, has begun. Michel, it’s the first snowfall of the season. It’s very lucky. Make a wish.
Michel: Get away from me.
Lorelai: Oh, you’re not supposed to say it out loud.

Lorelai: When I was five, I had a really bad ear infection and I had been home in bed for a week and I was very sad. So I wished really hard that something wonderful would happen to me. And I woke up the next morning and it had snowed. And I was sure that some fairy godmother had done it just for me. It was my little present.
Luke: Your parents never explained the concept of weather to you?
Lorelai: I’m making a point, Mouthy McGee. Of course, many years later, I realized that logically, the snow was not there for me personally. But, still, when it snows, something inside me says, ‘hey that’s your present.’ I don’t think it’ll ever change.

Songs that speak to my heart…❤

Cherrylady has put up some nice songs recently and I am just going to add up some more songs that are certainly worth listening to… Personally, I love Snow Patrol, Bon Iver, Damien Rice and The Lumineers. I’ve actually discovered the Lumineers not so long time ago and once I’ve listened to their songs, I’ve fallen in love with this American folk/rock band straight away. The songs that I am putting up down below speak to my heart and spirituality. They talk about life, love and tell us some kind of a story. Whenever I listen to them, I reflect on my life and think of all the people around me that are close to my heart. These songs have hidden meanings and what I like about them the most is that each of us can interpret the lyrics differently dependently on who we are and what our life is like.

I hope you will enjoy the songs! 🙂
